NAIRA DEVALUATION: NLC Wants N48,000 As New Minimum Wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) will soon propose a new minimum wage to the federal government following the decline in the value of naira, the Secretary General, Nigerian Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN), Comrade Issa Aremu, has said.

Aremu spoke yesterday on the sidelines of a policy dialogue on naira devaluation in Lagos said the current N18,000 is no longer sustainable and the NLC would propose N48,000 as minimum wage.

He said governors and employers of labour who fail to pay salaries should resign and be prosecuted.

He recalled that the first minimum wage was N125 in 1981 when the naira was about twice the value of the dollar and this translated to 250 dollars.

“The minimum wage has declined to 60 dollars. It has to move to N48,000. That is why the NLC is ready to prepare to submit our new proposal and this will be done, I tell you, whether through struggle, we will get that result.

“We are one of the poorest countries in the world. Ghanaians stand better than us. Workers’ wage is to turn the economy around and in spite of that some governors are still not paying as and when due. That’s why I said any governor or any employer that doesn’t pay salaries should resign and not only that, he should be prosecuted because the Nigerian constitution is very clear that they should pay salaries as at when due,” he said.

He said it was high time Nigeria began to consume what is produced locally in order to reduce reliance on foreign exchange and provide employment for the unemployed

How To Spot Girls Looking For Boyfriend At Lagos Restaurants

All the time in high brow restaurants in Lagos. Usually, they announce their presence in a group of four, three or two in some cases.
Guys reading this, you are part of the problem in Nigeria if you notice the first thirteen signs without approaching their table.
Here we go.

1. They pick the most visible spot in the restaurant to seat.
2. Then study the menu like they are studying for JAMB.
3. It takes roughly thirty minutes to an hour for them to decide an item on the menu they want.
4. And when they do, it’s usually the cheapest. Malt, coke, cranberry juice or orange juice.
5. They take a lot of selfies while waiting for their order. A lot of selfies!
6. They laugh a lot to nothing in particular…and very loud to attract the attention of prospective boyfriends seated.
7. It is common to find them laughing loud one minute and sober the next minute when they feel a potential lead may never approach their table.
8. Their eye lashes looks like they are ready to fly. Heavy makeup is the costume. Pushup br@ and waist trainer is the dress code. Add a strappy sandals & ombre wig to that.
9. They are usually with power banks cos they know it’s going to be long wait. And of course, that time can be spent in achieving the next level in Candy Crush.
10. They keep staring around anytime anyone walks in as though they are human drone cameras.
11. They make quick dashes to the rest room every fifteen minutes to remind candidates seated that they are still waiting.
12. And of course, to retouch their lipstick and rearrange the foam in their br@.
13. Accent fluctuates between American, British, and pidgin depending on who is walking past their table.
14. When it’s time to pay for their drinks using POS after an unsuccessful outing, they pull out up to four ATM cards and contribute in fractions like church offerings.

Man Utd target Mourinho: I'll be back soon. I'm staying in England

Sacked Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says his next job will be in England.

Mourinho has been out of work for six weeks and is in talks with Manchester United about succeeding Louis van Gaal.

"I have always to learn. Even in football, which is an area in which I feel I am an expert, I am never perfect and I will always learn," said Mourinho in an interview with GQ while working with Jaguar's new SUV.

"Sometimes in my work, and also in private life, maybe people think I am not humble. But I am so humble, and I am always ready to learn from people who know more than me.

"No, I am not enjoying it [not working]. I can have my family, I can have my friends, I can have my quiet life, which I also like, and I can have my football. I can have everything together and I don't need to give up on one of them.

"To be fully happy I need everything, so I go back to football. I think it's my natural habitat. I have worked since I can remember, and as a manager since 2000.

"I stopped when I left Chelsea in 2007, for a few months, and now is the second time I stop in 15 or 16 years, so it is not a drama. But for sure, I will be back soon."

Mourinho says he and his family are now settled in England.

"At this moment I don't know where football will take me, because in football you never know. But as a family, our home will be in London.

"I experimented with English, Italian and Spanish football, three of the top football sides in the world (Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid). I always say I need competition – I need competition every week. In Spain I was at an amazing club but I had four matches a year — Barcelona v Real Madrid, Real Madrid v Barcelona — and after that you win 4-0, 5-0, 5-1, 6-1…"

Stop Applying For Asylum In The UK, Come Back Home - Buhari Warn Nigerians

"Some Nigerians claim is that life is too difficult back home, but they have also made it difficult for Europeans and Americans to accept them because of the number of Nigerians in prisons all over the world accused of drug trafficking or human trafficking," he told The Telegraph.

"I don't think Nigerians have anybody to blame. They can remain at home, where their services are required to rebuild the country."

PHOTO: See How Much This 15-Year-Old Girl Was Given After She Was molested In Lagos

Every day has turned nightmarish for 15-year-old Semisola Olona (not real names) who seems not to get over the traumatic experience she had when she was allegedly molested by a commercial tricycle rider, known as Mr. Lati Ajoje.

Olona, a senior secondary one student in a Lagos school, said Ajoje was her mother’s customer and she knew him before the incident. Olona’s mother runs a canteen in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos.

She told our correspondent recently that she never believed Ajoje would rape her because he was a frequent customer at her mother’s shop.

In tears, Olona, who claimed she was a virgin before the incident, narrated how Ajoje took advantage of her.

She said she was on her way to her mother’s shop on January 15, 2016, when she met Ajoje who offered to drop her off at the canteen.

“I didn’t suspect anything. I even thanked him as I boarded his keke (tricycle). When we got to the bus stop, he turned and faced another route.

I asked him if he wasn’t going to my mum’s shop again. He didn’t answer me. I told him to stop me at the bus stop but he refused.

“He then told me to be patient and said he only wanted to go and collect something at Water Estate. I insisted I wanted to drop off. He didn’t listen to me, he ignored me. He got to where he was going and he stopped at an uncompleted building and told me to get down.

I asked him why, he said he wanted to tell me something. I told him I didn’t like the place he brought me and I was already feeling uncomfortable.

He just carried me forcibly and entered the building. I was struggling. I even had to bite him but he didn’t bulge. He carried me into a room in the uncompleted building.

“He removed my clothes. I told him I would rather he killed me than do anything to me. But he said he wasn’t going to kill me but he would still have s*x with me. That was how he forced himself on me and molested me,” she said.

Olona said Ajoje threatened to kill her if she ever told anybody about the incident.

“After molesting me, he used one rag to clean me up. After he finished, he gave me N200. But I told him I wasn’t going to take his money.

I was afraid to tell anybody because he had said he would kill me. But eventually, I had to tell my sister who told my mother. I have not seen him again since then. He no longer comes to my mother’s shop,” she said.

The President of Touch a Heart Foundation, Lawrence Bassey, who is currently handling the case, said the organisation felt obliged to take over the case when Olona’s mother reported the incident to it.

“The victim’s mother said her child was molested and presented a police report. We have taken her to the Mirabel Sexual Assault Referral Centre. After some tests, one of the doctors told the girl’s mother that she was actually molested and she has been given some treatment,” he said.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the case was also reported at the Gowon Estate Police Division.

The investigating police officer in charge of the case has said that the police are still looking for a way to arrest the rape suspect.

But Bassey said the suspect has been seen on the road operating his tricycle numerous times without attempts by the police to arrest him.

“The police have just refused to do their job and make the arrest. He is well known in the area.

“Few days ago, the IPO told us he can’t go around looking for a rapist. He said we should go and look for the suspect ourselves. We have started the investigation on our own since the police said we should handle it ourselves.

“The suspect has yet to be found. We met with the chairman of the Keke operators in the area where Ajoje operates and he promised to get back to us. They took us to his mother, who also said that Ajoje is on the run and nobody has seen him.

We have informed the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person, Office of the Public Defender and the Public Advice Centre about this matter,” he said.

When our correspondent contacted the Divisional Police Officer of the station, Mr. Festus Otabor, a chief superintendent of police, he explained that the complainant had the right to ask for him, if the IPO refused to act on the case.

“On a case of such magnitude, they should have made attempt to see me. I cannot hear of such case and just let it go. I am happy that you are informing me about the issue. They need to come back and talk to me. It is a serious issue,” he said.

Ghanaian Couple Living In UK Gives Birth To 3rd Set Of Twins (See Photos)

“We thought we were done with two sets, and then all of a sudden I realised I was pregnant again; it was a big shock and I cried because I was not expecting it.” She told Bradford’s The Telegraph

“The doctors cannot believe our run of twins, they ask if we have had any fertility treatment but we have had none at all.

“I think three sets of twins is enough for now; my husband wants to go for names that have something to do with giving thanks, but we have not made any decisions yet.”

Their other sets of twins are Ohene and Ohenewa, four, and Okese and Nana-Oye, one and a half.

“The other kids are so happy to have two new baby sisters and could not wait to see them for the first time.” She continued.

The couple moved  to the UK from Ghana in 2010.
