Melania Trump hopes to address social media ‘negativity’ as first lady

 

Melania Trump said Monday that one of her main goals as first lady would be to address the rampant “negativity” on social media that is “damaging for the children.”
Speaking to CNN’s Anderson Cooper in an interview in which she staunchly defended criticisms of her husband Donald Trump’s lewd and sexually aggressive comments during a 2005 “Access Hollywood” tape, the former model said that as first lady she would not only seek to help women and children, but also look to guide kids on how to carry themselves online.

“I see now in 21st century, the social media, it's very damaging for the children,” she said. “We need to guide them and teach them about social media because I see a lot of negativity on it and we need to help them. “
Melania Trump, who said she had opted to refrain from engaging in social media herself, identified bullying as a persistent issue for children.

The comments highlight a gaping contrast between Melania and Donald Trump, who has consistently attacked political opponents, media figures and most recently, the women who have accused him of sexual assault on social media.
Asked about whether she has sought to tamp down his posting habits, the prospective first lady said she has counseled him to do so, but it was ultimately his decision to make.
“He's an adult. He knows the consequences,” she said. “I give him many advices, but, you know, sometimes he listens, sometimes he doesn't. And he will do what he wants to do on the end, as I will do what I want to do.”
