UN peacekeeping mission to leave Ivory Coast next year

The UN peacekeeping mission in Ivory Coast (Onuci) is set to wrap up in June 2017, after 12 years of operation, according to a withdrawal schedule handed over to Ivorian officials.
The mission was created in 2004 under a UN resolution at a time when Ivory Coast was rocked by a civil war that led a north-south split in the country.
It was extended in the wake of the 2010 deadly post-electoral crisis. and had the mission of protecting civilians and supporting disarmament efforts.
Since January, the UN has started reducing the numbers of peacekeepers in Ivory Coast.
