Manchester United are prepared to pay out Bastian Schweinsteiger's contract to get him off the books.
The Sun says the ex-Bayern Munich star is on £180,000-a-week and is owed around £18m in wages with two years left on his Old Trafford deal.
An Old Trafford insider said: “Bastian is fulfilling his obligations by training each day and is in terrific shape.
“He's looking as good as he has since he arrived at the club.
“United are hoping a club will still come forward to take him off their hands in the upcoming window, but there are no takers as of yet."
Schweinsteiger will pocket a staggering £4m or so between January and the end of the season, which the Red Devils are reluctant to pay him.
United are happy for him to leave Old Trafford on a free, having written his £6m fee from Bayern Munich off their books.
If another club come in for him in January, they'll have to give him around £10m and save themselves a fortune.
